Why are most wine bottle racks hollowed?

If you have visited some wine cellars, or browse our wine rack design in product pages, you may find a common point of them: most of the wine bottle racks are hollowed, whatever it is made from wood or metal.

Why we make it hollowed? Or, rather, what are the advantages of hollowed wine bottle racks for wine, comparing to flat shelves.

The hollowed bottle rack has three main advantages.

The biggest one is that the bottle cannot roll around on such racks. Most of the wine bottles are round or nearly round. When a bottle is laid horizontally on the flat shelves, and there is no barrier on both sides, a touch or a shaking is enough to make it start to roll. This does not meet the requirement that wine should be kept still. In the hollowed wine bottle racks, there are two wooden/metal strips camping the bottle and stop the bottle from moving. This design also makes the rack hold the varied bottle shapes or sizes firmly.

The second one is the better ventilation. A stable, cool and humid atmosphere is good for wine aging, that’s why people will fix the specific air conditioners inside their cellars. And hollowed wine bottle rack has a better performance than the solid cabinets.

The third one is the better lighting performance. Wine racks are not always standing in basement or cellar, quite a lot of wine racks are designed for dining room, sitting room, entertainment and family bar. A bright lighting system will enhance the appearance. A wine cabinet may meet one light for each of the solid flat shelves. By contrast, light can go through the hollow wine racks, we only need a few lights fixed on top and/or both sides.

Besides, light weight, less cost, easily procession, etc. are the advantage of hollowed racks.
